HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College dropped an 8-1 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men's tennis decision to defending ODAC champion Washington and Lee University on Saturday at the H-SC Tennis Courts. Junior Clark Cummings/Norfolk and freshman Tyler Brice/Rocky Mount, N.C. garnered the point at No. 3 doubles, winning 8-4. The Tigers are now 5-9 overall, 4-1 in the ODAC.
W&L (8-4, 7-0) won the other two matches in doubles, before taking the six matches in singles. Junior brothers Matthew Moody/Raleigh, N.C. and Michael Moody/Raleigh, N.C. fell at No. 1, 5-8, while sophomore William Driskill/Middleburg and junior Grayson Burns/Waynesboro fell at No. 2, 5-8.
In singles, Matthew Moody fell at No. 1 by scores of 6-7 (8-10), 6-7 (2-7). Michael Moody fell at No. 2 by scores of 4-6, 1-6. Driskill fell at No. 3 by scores of 5-7, 6-3, 2-10. Burns fell at No. 4 by scores of 0-6, 1-6. Cummings fell at No. 5 by scores of 3-6, 1-6. Brice fell at No. 6 by scores of 3-6, 0-6.
H-SC will be idle for a week before returning to action at ODAC arch-rival Randolph-Macon on Sunday, April 7, at 1 p.m. in Ashland.
