HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College has been picked ninth in the 2019 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.  The Tigers, who finished ninth in last year's ODAC regular season standings, garnered 64 points in the poll.

Washington and Lee University was picked first with 138 points a year after claiming the 2018 ODAC Championship. The University of Lynchburg (132) and Roanoke College (119) were picked second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top five were Bridgewater College (115) and Randolph-Macon College (97). The Generals received nine of the 13 first-place votes with the Hornets garnering three and the Eagles collecting the other first-place vote.

H-SC returns seven top goal scorers from a year ago. Senior Spell Carr/Clinton, N.C. tallied seven goals and seven assists to lead the Tigers. Junior Jack Sweney/Duluth, Ga. finished the season with three goals, and the trio of sophomores Cody Brugos/Dinwiddie, Paul Mahaffy/Yorktown and Jacob Siler/Charlotte, N.C. each scored a pair of goals on the season. Seniors Josh McCormack/Stafford and Eli Strong/Windermere, Fla. each tallied one goal for the Tigers.

Junior keeper Gray Sutter/Clinton, N.C. returns in front of the net for H-SC after posting a 6-7-1 record last year. He finished the season with a 1.34 goals against average while making 51 saves for a .720 save percentage.

H-SC is coached by third-year head coach Tommy DiNuzzo. The Tigers will open the season at the UMW Classic on Friday, August 30 at 2:30 p.m. against Johns Hopkins University in Fredericksburg.
