HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hampden-Sydney College sophomore Jake O'Brien/Scituate, Mass. has been named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the period February 4-10.
O'Brien, a second-year attack, led the Tigers to a 14-7 season-opening victory past the University of Mary Washington on Feb. 9 at Fulton Field at Lewis C. Everett Stadium, posting career-highs of five goals and one assist for six points, along with a career-best 10 shots, including six on-goal (also a career-high). O'Brien scored two first-quarter goals at 11:00 and 1:18, adding his third goal at 11:51 of the third quarter, before closing out the scoring for the hosts with his fourth (unassisted) and fifth goals at 4:33 and 2:00, respectively. He started two of 16 matches during 2018 with eight goals and two assists for 10 points, adding 11 ground balls.
O'Brien was also one of seven named to the first 2019 DIII Team of the Week by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Hampden-Sydney (1-0) will play on the road at non-conference opponent Greensboro College on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 3 p.m. in North Carolina.
