Hampden-Sydney Golf Earns GCAA All-Academic Team Award

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- The Hampden-Sydney College golf team has been named as a recipient of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team Award.  The Tigers attained this prestigious academic honor with their overall team GPA of 3.18 during the 2018-19.  The GCAA recently honored 29 NCAA Division III intercollegiate men's programs that posted team grade point averages of 3.0 or higher for the most recent academic year.

"It's fantastic to see our student-athletes get rewarded for the hard work they put into their academic studies," said second-year head coach Chad Eisele.  "I'm very proud of their respective efforts to do well in the classroom, while also achieving such a high-level of success on the course." 

Team members included senior Jamie Agnew/Fairfax, juniors John David Gooden/Myrtle Beach, S.C., Adam Hade/Richmond and Bruce Shober/Appomattox, sophomores Allen Smith/Durham, N.C., Dylan Taylor/Richmond and Varun Yerramsetti/Birmingham, Ala., along with freshmen John Hatcher Ferguson/Rocky Mount, Jimmy Hill/Mechanicsville, Henry Ingram/Richmond, Keith Marks/Midlothian and Hunter Martin/Gloucester.
   
H-SC posted Top 15 National Rankings in both the Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll (12th) and the Golfstat Division III Top 25 (13th) after posting a 72-hole score of 1222 (297-315-309-301) to finish 12th at the Division III National Championships.  The Tigers earned six Top Five finishes among eight Top 10 efforts in 10 overall tournaments this year, averaging 296.67 per round.
