Huntingdon College defeated Hampden-Sydney Basketball 80-60 on Friday evening in the Daly Seven Tip-Off Classic hosted by Guilford College.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • H-SC started off strong, leading 5-2 after three minutes.
  • Following a 7-5 lead at 15:33, Huntingdon reeled off the next 10 points to jump ahead 15-7 at the 13:33 mark
  • They extended the lead out to 36-15 at 5:26, but a 12-0 Tiger run primarily sparked by freshmen Jake Furrow, Brendan McHale, Will Sparks, Drew Scott, and Baker Haviland drew the Tigers within nine, 36-27, with two minutes to go in the half and each team exchanged a free throw apiece to make it a 37-28 game going into intermission
  • The comeback attempt was stifled by the halftime break and the Tigers did not manage to get their deficit under 10 following a Hunting three pointer 29 seconds into the second half

FOR THE FOES

  • TC Elmore posted game-highs of 22 points, seven rebounds, and three steals
  • Kyante Pines added 11 points and seven boards
  • Jaleel Beeman tacked on 11 points and four rebounds
  • Isaiah King contributed 10 points

STATS OF THE GAME

  • The Hawks outshot the Tigers 44.1% to 35.6% overall and 42.1% to 29.0% on three pointers
  • Huntingdon held a narrow 46-41 edge on the glass with just six second chance points
  • The Tigers gave away the ball 17 times resulting in 18 Hawks points. Huntingdon's 10 turnovers produced just two points off giveaways for Hampden-Sydney
