Tigers to Host Marygrove College for Santa Night on Thursday

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - Hampden-Sydney Basketball hosts Marygrove College on Thursday night at 7 pm as part of the annual Santa Night event. Hampden-Sydney Basketball is partnering with Farmville Jaycees for a toy drive. Admission to the game is free, but all fans are encouraged to donate a toy that will be given to local children in need.

Hampden-Sydney is off to an 8-1 start this season along with a 3-0 ODAC record and 4-0 home record. The 8-1 record is the best start to the season since the 2003-04 squad began 11-0. For their efforts thus far, the Tigers have tallied 45 points in the D3hoops.com Top 25, putting them tied for the 29th most points.

H-SC has rolled through most of its schedule thus far, winning seven of its nine contests by 10+ points while scoring over 100 or more points three times, 90+ five times, and 80+ in its last six games. The defense has also been stout, holding foes to 62 points for three straight games and under 70 for four consecutive bouts.

H-SC ranks sixth in the nation in scoring at 91.6 points a game. The Tigers rank first in three statistical categories, including scoring margin (+26.6), field goal percentage (54.5%), and assists per game (22.7). Additionally, the Tigers boast the sixth best assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.48, are 11th in steals per game with 12.6, and rank 13th in turnover margin at +6.8.

Marygrove College, an NAIA Division II school located in Detroit, Michigan, comes in to the contest with a 1-12 record and five consecutive losses. Their lone win, a 62-57 decision, came on November 28 at home against Lawrence Tech. The Mustangs are averaging just 55.8 points a game while allowing 79. Marygrove has scored fewer than 60 points in eight games and under 50 in five games. Meanwhile, the defense has surrendered at least 75 points 12 of 13 games. The Mustangs have just one player on their roster averaging double digits while the team as a whole is shooting just 35.1% overall and 51.4% from the free throw line.
