Tigers to Host Maryville in First Round
INDIANNAPOLIS, IN-The field of 32 has been announced, and the 2013 ODAC Champion Tigers will host the Scots of Maryville College in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Football Championship on Saturday, November 23. Kickoff is set for 12:00 pm.
2013 marks the fifth postseason appearance for the Tigers since 2007 and is the third time the Tigers have hosted a first round game.
Hampden-Sydney enters the postseason having received a Pool A bid after winning the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship. The Tigers wrapped up the regular season at 8-2 overall and 6-1 in ODAC play. The team is currently riding a three-game winning streak and is fresh off a Championship-clinching 28-26 win in Ashland over arch-rival Randolph-Macon.
Maryville also received a Pool A bid after winning the USA South at 8-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The Scots had won seven straight games before falling 45-38 to Huntingdon in the regular season finale.
Hampden-Sydney and Maryville are no strangers, having met 24 times with the Tigers holding a 17-7 advantage in the series. Under head coach Marty Favret, the Tigers are 4-0 against Maryville, including an 82-14 win in their last meeting in 2003.
