FOREST, VA-Junior linebacker Josh Doggett (Mechanicsville, VA/Atlee) was named this week's ODAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping spearhead a dominating defensive effort in the Tigers' 49-7 win over Coast Guard.
Doggett and the Tigers held the Bears to just seven first downs and 80 yards of total offense, including minus-10 rushing. Doggett came away with two tackles, both behind the line of scrimmage for a loss of 11 yards. He also came away with a pair of turnovers. He forced a fumble in the second quarter that led to a Tigers' field goal for a 29-0 advantage. He ended Coast Guard's next possession prematurely as he intercepted a pass and returned 35 yards to the Bears' two-yard line. Hampden-Sydney punched it in on the next play to make it 36-0 Tigers.
Through three games, Doggett leads the defense in every statistical category with 20 tackles, eight for-loss, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one interception.
Doggett and the Tigers are idle this week but will return to action next Saturday, October 5, as they host the Catholic Cardinals in the ODAC opener.
