Football Travels to Washington & Lee for First Place Showdown

Holton Walker

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA-Hampden-Sydney and Washington & Lee square off for the 71st time on Saturday with the Tigers holding a slight 36-32-2 edge in the series dating back to 1899.

The two teams have had crucial match ups the last few years with the teams combining for five of the last six conference championships. This year is no different with both programs sitting atop the ODAC at 4-1.

No team has won back-to-back games since the Tigers won 39-29 in 2008 and 38-31 in 2009. Washington & Lee then spoiled back-to-back perfect seasons for Hampden-Sydney in 2010 with a 42-35 victory in Lexington, but the Tigers took a 34-28 decision at Everett Stadium last season.

The Generals recovered from their first conference loss with a 41-14 win over Catholic last week, while the Tigers are currently riding a four-game win streak.
